Where other sellers are cheaper
At the entry level, Modus is not the cheapest. SmodParis shows €190 and Maison Mods €189.90, Time2Seiko €269, Goteia €279 and Prose Watches €279. Austral shows €289 for its battery-powered chronograph but €299 for its NH35 automatic. WatchModCustom shows €269 on promotion (€289 otherwise) for its VK63 battery chronographs and €349 for its other models; Chrono Mod starts at €319. The gap with Modus runs from about €6 to €105. These entry prices are not always comparable: crystal, case, water resistance, warranty, delivery time and returns differ from seller to seller.
What Modus does not do better
- Entry price: see above. Modus starts at €295 in the catalogue and €349 in the configurator.
- Stated water resistance: Modus states 5 ATM on every watch. Several sellers state 10 ATM (100 m) on some models, for example Chrono Mod, Maison Mods, Austral and WatchModCustom. Modus watches are dive-style but are not dive watches.
- Return shipping: at Modus the customer pays it unless the watch is faulty. Goteia and Maison Mods state that they pay for returns.
- Choice of calibers: some sellers offer additional calibers (NH36, NH72, 4R34, 6R35A) that Modus does not use.
Where Modus stands out
- Warranty: 3 years against manufacturing defects (movement, case and water resistance in normal use). Among the sellers checked, only Prose Watches also states 3 years, in its FAQ and terms. Austral offers a paid 4-year extension.
- Returns on a configured watch: a watch built in the Modus configurator can be returned within 30 days. Six of the seven other sellers that have a configurator exclude or restrict returns on customized watches.
- Catalogue delivery time: shipping within 24 to 48 working hours. Maison Mods states 72 h on some models and Time2Seiko 48 h for watches in stock.
- Identity: company, SIREN, address and e-mail shown in the legal notice, as for five other sellers in this comparison, with after-sales service in France.
