On 17 October 2026, the entry price of a ready-to-wear seiko mod runs from €189.90 to €319 at the nine European sellers we read. The median is €279 (€274 without Modus, which starts at €295). The €129 gap between the cheapest and the dearest comes first from the function: at the same seller, a GMT costs €10 to €160 more than a three-hand watch. Warranty, water resistance and customisation come next.

Prices include tax, in euros, read on 17 October 2026 from each seller's pages. A struck-through price or a promotion changes the price of the day. Each seller's detail (movement, lead time, legal identity) is in our comparison of seiko mod brands.
What moves the price of a seiko mod
1. The movement and the function
This is the first factor. A three-hand watch with date (NH35 calibre) is the cheapest; a second time zone (NH34), a skeleton (NH70) or a chronograph (VK63) add a premium. Here is the gap we read, seller by seller, between the entry price and the first price of a GMT model:
| Seller | Entry price | First GMT price read | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Austral | €289 | €299 | +€10 |
| Modus Horlogerie | €295 | €339 | +€44 |
| Maison Mods | €189.90 | €249.90 | +€60 |
| SmodParis | €190 | €277.99 | +€87.99 |
| Time2Seiko | €269 | €399 | +€130 |
| Chrono Mod | €319 | €479 | +€160 |
Other calibres sit closer: at Modus the ORBIT skeleton (NH70) is €329, €34 above the entry price; at Austral the NH35 automatic is €299, €10 above the battery chronograph. These gaps do not compare identical watches: case, dial and finish differ too.
2. Crystal, case and finish
The crystal (sapphire or mineral) and the case material (316L steel or other) weigh on the price, but none of the sellers read shows the matching extra cost: the effect of these materials on the price is "not stated". At Modus, anti-reflective sapphire and 316L stainless steel are standard on every watch. When you compare two entry prices, read the crystal and the case on each product page: if they are not written down, note it as a warning sign.
3. Water resistance
Some sellers sell water resistance separately. Time2Seiko lists a 5 ATM water-resistance upgrade at €14.99 and a 10 ATM one at €19.99; Prose Watches sells "reinforced water resistance" at €50. At Modus, 5 ATM is standard on every watch, which are diver-style but not dive watches.
4. The warranty
The stated duration is 2 years at six sellers, 1 year at WatchModCustom and 3 years at Modus (and, per its FAQ and terms, at Prose Watches). Two sellers also sell it separately: Maison Mods offers a "2-year all-inclusive warranty" at €14.90 and Austral a 2-year warranty extension at €19.99. At Modus the 3 years are included in the price.
5. Customisation
A configurator adds the choice of dial, case and hands, and starts at a higher price than the catalogue: from €349 at Modus, €319 at Chrono Mod, €299 at Austral. Options are charged on top:
| Option | Price read |
|---|---|
| Text engraving | Time2Seiko €17.99; Modus €19 (caseback) or €19 (side), €29 for both |
| Image or logo engraving | Time2Seiko €24.99; Modus logo on the dial €29 |
| Custom dial | Austral €24 |
| GMT hand added in the configurator | Modus €40 |
| Premium rotor | Time2Seiko €14.90 |
| Extra strap | Modus €39; Prose Watches €49.90 |
6. Shipping and returns
At Modus, shipping is free in every country, with no minimum. We did not read the other sellers' shipping rates: "not stated" in this barometer. The cost of a return matters too: Goteia and Maison Mods pay for it; at Modus and most other sellers it falls on the customer unless the watch is faulty, and Prose Watches does not say.
The cost of parts
Not stated. We did not read the price of a movement, case or crystal sold separately from any parts supplier with a verifiable date and source, so we publish no figure. The only component data published here are the sellers' options listed above.
Method
- Date and place. Reading taken on 17 October 2026 from France with a standard browser, on each seller's public pages: home page, product list, product page, warranty, returns and terms pages. A second pass the same day re-checked every entry price.
- What is counted. One price per seller: the lowest for a complete watch with an automatic or mecha-quartz movement, available to buy, excluding straps, gift cards, accessories and parts. Prices in euros, tax included. When a seller shows a promotion we use the price of the day and give the price without promotion.
- Sample. Nine European seiko mod sellers, those in our comparison. The list is not exhaustive. Modus is part of the sample; statistics are given with and without Modus.
- Median and mean. The median is the middle value once prices are ranked. With eight sellers it is the mean of the two central values (€269 and €279).
- Missing information. When a seller does not write something down, we write "not stated". We ordered nothing.
- Limits. The entry price is not the average price paid by buyers, and we have no sales figures. Prices and promotions change from day to day; a seller may show a different price depending on the buyer's country.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a seiko mod cost in 2026?
According to the 17 October 2026 reading, the entry price of a ready-to-wear seiko mod runs from €189.90 to €319 at nine European sellers, with a median of €279. At Modus it starts at €295 in the catalogue, €329 for the skeleton, €339 for the GMT, and from €349 in the configurator.
What is the median price of a seiko mod?
€279 for the nine sellers read, €274 if Modus is left out. This is each seller's entry price, not an average price paid by buyers.
Why do prices run from €190 to €319?
The movement and the function weigh the most: at the same seller, a GMT costs €10 to €160 more than a three-hand watch. Crystal, case, water resistance, warranty length and customisation come next, along with the day's promotions.
Is a €190 seiko mod reliable?
The price alone does not say. Check what it includes: named calibre, crystal, stated water resistance, written warranty, returns, seller identity. At this price the stated warranty is 2 years at the sellers read. Our comparison sets out the other criteria.
Is this barometer independent?
No, in the sense that Modus also sells seiko mods and is in the sample. To limit the bias, statistics are given with and without Modus, the method is published, readings are repeated as each seller writes them, and every seller can ask for a correction.
Where can I find the barometer data?
In the tables on this page and in a downloadable CSV file. Entry prices, warranty and returns appear there with the reading date, 17 October 2026.
How often is this barometer updated?
When we notice a change in a seller's price or terms. The last update date is at the top of the page. Prices change: check them on the seller's site before ordering.
